United Methodist Women’s Retreat
Overcoming the Weariness of Well-Doing: Exploring the Essential Art of Self-Care
February 6 - 8, 2015, PriestField Pastoral Center, Kearneysville, WV
Each year we gather together for a weekend where we learn new ways to pray, deepen our faith and strengthen our community of women.
This year during this special time away from the stress of our everyday lives, we will pause to reflect on how our responsibilities as care-givers and volunteers in ministry can sometimes overwhelm us and sap our inner resources. Using the creative process we will focus on strategies for self-care that can help us reboot, renew and refresh.
Our leader this year will be Martina Martin, M. Div., MA, and Certified Art Therapist. This event is sponsored by the United Methodist Women but open to all women in the Metropolitan/Wesley community. Stay tuned for registration information coming soon in this space.
If you’ve never attended one of our retreats, we encourage you to give it a try. The weekend offers a time to reflect and unwind and to get to know the other women in our three congregations. You need not be a member of the United Methodist Women or be pious nor certain of your beliefs. You need only to be female and curious about God. Registration forms are available here. Space is limited, so don’t delay. Final registration deadline is January 30, 2015. Financial assistance is available on a first-come-first-served basis; deadline for requests for financial assistance is January 23, 2015. For questions on financial assistance or other concerns contact Suzanne Vieth.

Great Day of Service
Each Spring, the United Methodist Women of Metropolitan Memorial sponsor a church-wide service day that includes a food drive, making sandwiches for delivery to the homeless, cooking dinners for Metro House and St. Luke’s Shelter, and a host of other service projects, such as assembling health kits for use in relief efforts and Bags of Grace for the homeless. Contact UMW Social Action Coordinator, Jeanie Mah.
To get involved, all you need to do is show up! Children, families, and youth are welcome. There are many tasks and activities to choose from. Leaders are also needed to organize and lead the individual projects, purchase supplies, plan refreshments, and deliver items at the end of the day.
Call To Prayer
Our annual Call to Prayer occurs during Lent and is a worship opportunity to reflect on and support the mission work that the UMW supports globally. Past Call to Prayer gatherings have benefitted retired missionaries and deaconesses, hospital construction and more.
