In keeping with the Scriptural vision of all nations, tribes, and people coming together before God as well as John Wesley’s proclamation that “The world is my parish,” Metropolitan is called to serve beyond its local community. Through Volunteers in Mission teams, ongoing mission partnerships, and youth and adult work trips to various regions of our own country, the congregation seeks to enlarge its vision of extending radical hospitality, transforming lives, and pursuing justice through a wide array of global connections.
One of the missionaries we partner with in our Nicaragua Volunteer in Mission trips will be state-side this month and visiting us! If you are interested in learning more about our work in Nicaragua with Accion Medica Cristiana (Christian Medical Action, AMC), this is the perfect opportunity to come and ask questions and hear straight from Dr. Forbes about her and the agency's work. This organization has an incredible history of responding to the needs of the impoverished communities in the Caribbean regions of Nicaragua, begun in 1984 with young Nicaraguan doctors offering charitable health services.
Today A.M.C. has a multidisciplinary staff of health and development professionals that include agronomists, psychologists, social workers, educators, public health and disaster prevention specialists. A.M.C. and communities are working with an integrated approach to benefit more than 90,000 people throughout Nicaragua with a special emphasis on women’s, children’s and adolescent health. Local capacity building, lobbying and advocacy bring empowerment to historically marginalized people.
