ASP and Middle School Mission Projects this Summer
As a sign that we are returning to something closer to normal, plans are underway for our church to take senior high youth mission teams to the Appalachia Service Project this summer!
Here are the basics:
Dates: July 2 to July 9
Number of Teams: 2
Number of Youth: 10 (5 per team)
Youth Age Requirement: must be at least 14 years old and no older than 18
Number of Adults: 4 (one male and one female in both groups)
Fundraising: while we will not have a typical ASP Auction with lots of items for bidding, we will have a few special items and will invite folks to provide financial support for the ASP Mission Trip. ASP has been a whole-church ministry for the almost 50 years that we have been going. This year promises to continue that tradition!
Mandatory Meetings: all youth and adults going on the trip must participate in the three meetings leading up to the trip:
March 27, 4-5:30 in the Great Hall at Metropolitan Memorial: Kick off with youth, adult volunteers, and parents; team building with those going on ASP
April 3, 4-5:30 in the Vestry at Metropolitan Memorial: skill building using tools that will be used on ASP
April 24, 4-5:30 in the Vestry at Metropolitan Memorial: Cultural awareness training.
Note: this will be a summer of Missions – our Senior Highs will be going on ASP from July 2 to July 9, and our Middle Schoolers will be working on local mission projects on July 11, 12, and 13. We will be sharing more information on plans for the Middle Schoolers soon.
