From fronting the legendary group "Spur of the Moment" to collaborating with national greats like Will Downing, Jean Carne, and Angela Winbush, his career is defined by musical mastery.

Lenair’s artistry has garnered widespread acclaim in the Smooth Jazz world, including five nationally produced CDs and two Top 15 Billboard singles. June 27, 2026

Thad Wilson has been a mainstay of the DC jazz scene since the 1990s. Born in Wrightstown, New Jersey, and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Thad has studied the trumpet since age 12. As a leader, Thad's energetic and engaging approach unearths memories of Louis Armstrong. However, his music always reflects a personal style that blends progressive elements such as blues, funk, Gospel and a touch of hip-hop.

Thad has performed alongside world-renowned artists such as George Benson, James Moody, Eddie Henderson, Steve Turre, Cecil Bridgewater, McCoy Tyner, Vanessa Ruben, and Roy Hargrove. His worldwide appearances include Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia; Le Caveau de la Huchette in Paris, France; Antigua Music Festival; Atlanta Jazz Festival; New Orleans Jazz Festival; and Spoleto Music Festival in Charleston, South Carolina.

July 25, 2026: Tiya! : Celebrating the life of Paula PrEE

In July, Jazz@Wesley will honor one of our beloved Jazz@Wesley volunteers, Paula Pree. Many may remember Paula. With her vibrant purple hair and big smile, she was hard to miss! Sadly, Paula transitioned over the winter. We’ll be honoring her memory at our July 25 concert with a joyous celebration.

One of Paula’s closest friends, Tiya!, will perform. She’s been a fixture on the DC music scene for decades. If you’ve ever caught one of her yearly Jazz@Wesley concerts, you know she brings the heat with her rich voice and electric performances. Tiya! and Paula performed together in the African American women’s a cappella ensemble “In Process…”. They also were part of the group that founded Jazz@Wesley over 15 years ago and have been dedicated stewards of the program ever since.

All are welcome to attend what will be a lively and heart-filled celebration. We’ll also be taking donations in Paula’s name at the concert to support Jazz@Wesley.

Show Highlights

December 2026. What a night! Bobby Felder and Friends blew the roof off. It was Bobby’s last performance at Jazz@Wesley before his passing. RIP Bobby! You will always be remembered with love.

The Paul Carr Quintet featuring Steve Washington brought old school vibes on March 28, 2026. Their tribute to John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman reinterpreted great jazz standards with their impeccable stylings.

The Benjie Porecki Trio astounded us on March 15, 2026 with their many jazz stylings. These cats can do it all: smooth, be-bop, and funk! What a thrilling way to spend a Sunday afternoon. (And is the bass player’s little boy destined to make this group a quartet some day?)

Our February 2026 Show was a Main Street Jazz success story! With Sharón Clark, vocalist, Harry Appelman, piano, Marshall Keys, sax, Mikel Combs, bass, and Ross Kaplan, drums, it was a powerhouse collection of DC greats.
