Gun Violence Prevention
We’ve thought. We’ve prayed. And we need your help to act and stop this epidemic.
GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION (GVP) FACTS
Every day, 100 Americans are killed with guns (some stats say 109).
Nearly two-thirds of gun deaths are suicides. Access to a gun increases the risk of death by suicide by three times.
Access to a gun in a domestic violence situation makes it five times more likely that a woman will be killed.
Firearms are the second leading cause of death for American children and teens. Motor vehicles are first.
The only leading cause of death to receive less research funding per life lost than gun violence is accidental falls. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lack the funding to collect and examine gun violence data.
Federal law allows people who are not licensed gun dealers to sell guns at gun shows, online, and in person.
An estimated 200,000 to 500,000 guns are stolen annually from private gun owners, but federal law does not require them to report the loss or theft of a firearm to law enforcement. Stolen guns can be trafficked.
