The Arts
National UMC's thriving visual and performing arts programs are a great outlet for our many talented community members. Throughout the year, exhibitions and concerts are planned and hosted by the Arts Council for everyone to enjoy. From the Navy Band Sea Chanters to piano concerts there are offerings nearly every month alongside art installations in the Great Hall.
Arts Council
The National UMC Arts Council is a group of church members who promote, encourage and incorporate the arts as an integral part of the life of our church and its outreach to the community. The Council sponsors curated art shows and concerts several times a year, and hosts exhibits of art work by members of our community.
Jazz at Wesley
On the fourth Saturday of each month, our Wesley campus hosts an entertaining evening of jazz, featuring some of Washington, DC's most notable jazz musicians, vocalists, and ensembles. This fall, each program is preceded by a fun and interactive dance lesson. Jazz at Wesley is appropriate for all ages and is proud to be an alcohol-free environment.
Check the Jazz@Wesley page for details and to purchase tickets in advance. For more information or to inquire about performing at Jazz at Wesley, please contact Pam Rogers.
Metro Players
The Metro Players have a rich 30+ year history of performing a wide range of theatrical pieces, and are an inter-generational all-volunteer group of thespians of varying degrees of experience and ability. For over 30 years, the group has presented theatrical offerings ranging from one-act plays to full-length dramas and comedies that are informative, consciousness-raising, sometimes controversial, and always artfully done.
Opportunities in the Players include on-stage performance and behind the scenes support, including: lighting, sound, sets, props, costuming, makeup and hair, publicity, play reading and selection, and much more! If you have any questions about our work, have any suggestions for plays for us to consider producing, or wish to join us either onstage or backstage, please contact us.
