Project Transformation
This summer, National UMC will again support Project Transformation DC, a camp that focuses on retaining and improving the reading skills of DC kids. Project Transformation has been a part of our congregation for six years as volunteers have spent memorable and gratifying summer mornings reading one-on-one with campers. Watching these children's growth over the weeks is a warm and rewarding experience not to be missed. Last summer, all of the campers, 100 percent of them, retained or improved their reading level over the summer, an important achievement that our congregation helped to realize.
Seeking volunteers to read with kids at Emory Fellowship UMC Wednesdays July 5 through August 9. There are several mornings available for volunteering. Sign up for one, two, or all of the Wednesdays, as your schedule permits. We also will organize carpools for those who want to ride together to the church, located in Brightwood. Each volunteer must be at least 15 years old. Those over 18 must complete a brief Safe Sanctuaries training before working with the children.

If you can't do a weekday morning commitment, there are many other ways to help:
We will make sandwiches and bagged lunches for campers every Sunday morning at the Metropolitan campus. Donations of sandwich bread, sliced meat, and cheese are needed as well as volunteers to pack lunches. Another way to assist is to send sack lunch items for these meals. Visit our wish list:

Select the "registry address" for shipping (the church).
Finally, the interns working at Project Transformation are staying at Shalom Place in the St. Luke's Mission Center. They are hoping to connect with volunteers who will bring them dinner. Feel free to stay and eat with them too! The sign up can be found here:
